Depict Evaluation

For the this task, we had to create a short film that lasted under 90 seconds, based around the Depict short film competition.

Here's an example of an over the shoulder shot in the film
The camerawork in my group's production is overall good, containing some unique techniques, like the camera rise in the last shot. A few of the shots could have done with some more re-shoots as there were a few shaky shots as well as some poorly positioned angles. There is a wide range of shots that were used, such as low angles, long shots, tracking shots and over the shoulder shots to name a few.

Here's an example of a low angle shot in the film.

There are very few mistakes regarding the mise-en-scene in the film. There is one shot where there are bags out of place behind the actor in the last shot. A few shots could have done with some more re-shoots to have been the best they could have been - for example, we could have re-shot the seen where the crews' bags could be seen.

Here we can see the crews' bags in the background.
The continuity was mostly good, apart from one major error, when one of the characters has a different shirt on in a shot from the previous. I think we managed to pull off quite a good job with the editing considering that we had allot of shaky shots and shots that didn't fit in well. We made it flow well considering we did not have time to re-shoot some of the scenes we wanted to because of the rain on two of our shooting days.

I was quite disappointed with the sound in our production as the audio levels messed up in some of the shots, making it hard to hear a few lines of dialogue. There is also quite allot of background noise, such as passing cars on the busy road behind. If we had more time I think we would have gone back to re-shoot some scenes when there was less background noise. The soundtrack was produced by myself and we did not have a lot of time to make it fit right with the film, so I think we did a good job at editing the soundtrack with the time we had for it.

Overall, I am happy with the job we managed to pull off with the setbacks of rain and some members of the group not being in on certain days. I am not happy with the mistakes and errors that could have been fixed if we had more time. But in the end, everything went well and everyone in the group got on well with each other.
